We recently had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a Computer Games Development Taster Session with Helm Dundee, representing Sloth Doctor Games - and what a brilliant day it was!

The event brought together young people with a passion for gaming, giving them the chance to explore how games are made and to try out a range of titles developed by talented local game developers. We were proud to showcase our own old demo from Sloth Doctor Games and talk about our journey in development.

Alongside our demo, there were some incredible games available to play, including:

  • Book of Abominations

  • Deadlocked

  • Baby in Yellow

  • A Dance of Fire and Ice

It was inspiring to see so much local talent on display and even more inspiring to watch the young attendees dive in, try everything out, and chat enthusiastically about their favourite genres and what kinds of games they dream of creating one day.

Building Pathways into Game Development

Our Company Director, Scott Cambell, delivered an engaging presentation during the session. As the Game Learning Lead at Helm and Into Games, Scott is passionate about creating real opportunities for young people in Dundee to break into the games industry.

He is launching a 13-week NPA Level 4 course designed to help young people gain valuable, transferable skills while learning the fundamentals of game development. This qualification could support progression into further study at college - opening meaningful pathways into higher education and creative careers.

Scott’s long-term vision is to expand this offering to Level 5 and Level 6, creating clearer, more direct routes into advanced study and the games industry itself. It’s an exciting step forward for Dundee’s growing creative and digital sector.

We fully support Scott in this mission - what he’s building is genuinely transformational for young people in the area.

FREE Game Design Saturday Club for 13–16 Year Olds! 🎮✨

As if that wasn’t enough, Scott is also launching a brand-new initiative through his role with Into Games - the National Saturday Club’s FREE Game Design Saturday Club at Dundee and Angus College.

This is a brilliant opportunity for teens who love video games to discover how they’re actually made.

From early ideas to creating a fully playable game, participants will explore:

  • Game art

  • Coding

  • Sound and music

  • Core game design principles

No experience is needed - just curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm!

📍 Dundee and Angus College, Gardyne Campus📅 Saturdays, 28 March – 15 August10am–1pm

It’s a fun, supportive environment where young people can turn their passion for gaming into real creative and digital skills.

A Brilliant Day for Dundee’s Future Developers

The taster session was full of energy, creativity and excitement. Seeing young people openly discuss their passion for games - what they love playing and what they’d like to build - reminds us why initiatives like this matter so much.

Dundee has a proud history in game development, and thanks to passionate educators and industry professionals like Scott, the next generation is already stepping forward.

We’re proud to have played a small part in such a positive, inspiring day - and we can’t wait to see what these future developers create.
